It never ceases to amaze me how incompetent Colin Campbell is. If the NHL truly wants to eliminate head-shots and hits from behind, he is going to have to start doling out suspensions based on the offending players intent. Brashear got 5 games for the following hit:

The more I watch that, the less I think it deserves any suspension at all. Notice in the video that Voros skates by and delivers an almost identical hit to Brashear right before the hit on Betts. Betts apparently suffered a broken orbital bone, but that was almost certainly a result of his face hitting the ice and not the hit itself.

Here is an example of two hits (each worse than the Brashear hit) that deserved suspensions:

In both situations Malkin delivers hits to a player's head with intent to injure. However, there was no suspension because there was no injury (and because the League has a double standard when it comes to the Penguins).

This hit by Colton Orr is far worse than the hit by Brashear. Had Ovechkin fallen and been injured, would Campbell have doled out a suspension to Orr?
This is a dangerous path upon which Mr. Campbell is treading, and he is doing an absolutely horrific job in policing the NHL. Until he starts focusing on intent rather than results, he will continue to do a horrific job.
